About
About TaxQL
TaxQL is a U.S. sales tax lookup API. We resolve addresses to the actual jurisdiction, not the city in the address line. We charge half what the leading providers charge.
Why TaxQL exists
Sales tax in the U.S. is complicated by design — over 13,000 distinct jurisdictions, quarterly rate changes, address-vs-place ambiguity at nearly every city boundary. Incumbent providers solved this 10–15 years ago and have been the default since. Their pricing has stayed at premium tier even as their core data became commodity.
We built TaxQL because three things became true at once:
- The underlying data is freely available from state Departments of Revenue;
- Modern PostGIS makes polygon overlays computationally cheap;
- Merchant-of-record billing (via Paddle) removes the sales-tax compliance burden from the SaaS company providing the tax data — the ergonomic irony nobody had solved.
The first customer signed in 2026. We're growing slowly and deliberately, focusing on accuracy and transparency as the differentiators.
How we measure accuracy
99.5%+ accuracy on rooftop lookups, validated continuously against state Department of Revenue source files. Same answer on every plan — premium ZIP+9 geocoding is on by default for every lookup, no plan-based degradation.
Who we are
TaxQL was founded by Anatoliy Novitsky in 2026. The team is small and the business is independent. We're not VC-funded and we don't take growth-at-all-costs shortcuts — the goal is to be cash-flow positive on a small, durable customer base before scaling outward.
